Explore Franklin County

Named for Benjamin Franklin and founded in 1779, Franklin County is located 30 miles north of Raleigh, making it convenient to the metropolitan Triangle area while retaining its rural North Carolina charm. The area offers its visitors a variety of activities, running the gamut from skydiving and horseback riding to shopping and exploring the county’s many historic sites. The adventurer can enjoy hiking and canoeing along the Tar River, while others may find a concert or ballet at Louisburg College, the state’s oldest junior college, more to their taste. Whatever your preference, Franklin County has something for everyone.
